Since it’s that time of the year where so many of us are purchasing items from Amazon, we thought it would be a good idea to help make things easier by reminding you about how to get price-change refunds from items purchased from Amazon.

Since publishing this original article back in march of 2013, we’ve had hundreds of users contact us about their successes and saving a lot of money. Keep reading to find out how you too can save money on price changes!

Have you ever bought something on Amazon only to see the price drop shortly after your purchase? This has happened to just about everyone I’ve talked to who buys something on Amazon. So many in fact, that Amazon had to change its policy regarding price changes from 30 days down to 7 days. So right now if the price changes, you can only get the refund if it’s within one week of your purchase date. Here’s how to do it:

Note: This Amazon price-change refund policy only applies to items shipped and sold by Amazon itself. If you’re buying from a different vendor who is selling on Amazon, you’ll just be directed to contact that vendor if the price dropped.

From the Amazon Return and Refunds page, and then click the Contact Us button under the Quick Solutions section on the left. If you want an easier way to get there, click the “Contact Us” button on the right side of this page.

If you’re logged in to your Amazon account, you may be able to automatically add the order by selecting it. Under section 2 for an issue select Returns and refunds then for Issue Details  select Other return or refund issue. Then type: partial refund, price change into the summary and then select how you would like to contact Amazon. You can call Amazon or start an instant chat, but a simple e-mail will usually work just as well.

If you go the email route just add a polite message with a request (not a demand) for the price change.

Now just wait and see what Amazon says. Chances are you’ll receive the price difference without any hassle. But if you do run encounter a snappy customer service agent that refuses to refund, try again using the phone and request Amazon account credit instead. Always try to be polite, and if the rep on the phone gives you a hassle, escalate the call by requesting to talk with the rep’s supervisor.

If you’ve had a positive (or negative) experience with Amazon and price changes, drop a comment below and let us know how it went. I’m sure our readers would love to hear about it!
